10 Approaches to Portraiture #2
In May 2026,10 photographers from around the world traveled to Santorini, Greece, for a five-day workshop titled “Approaches to Portraiture,” led by artist Dana Lixenberg. It was a truly inspiring, intense, and exciting week. The days were filled with photography, conversations, experimentation, laughter, swimming breaks, late-night discussions, and the unique energy that emerges when people come together to share their practice openly and generously. Artist Sarah Wong, a friend of Dana’s, joined as well to talk about “Who They Are,” her project on transgender children in the Netherlands.
As a challenge, Dana directed the photographers to use each other as subjects, a process that was both intimate and revealing. By the end of the workshop, each artist had produced 9 portraits (and made new friends along the way). We are thrilled to share their work with you here.

Temps Mort #1
In the workshop “Temps Mort,” which took place in Santorini in September 2024, Raymond Meeks guided participants as they explored the formidable relationship and emotive power of working in sequences. A series of images, whether narrative or non-narrative, can generate feeling in ways that defies reason, he explained. The workshop considered the restrained pacing of pictures and the value of slowing down and lingering in a space of related or repetitive imagery. Together, the photographers narrowed the scope and dependence on subject matter, and discovered what might result when they were less reliant on content and shifted toward an exploration of form. All of the images published in the book Temps Mort were produced during the workshop
