Our Philosophy

Set in a historical property dating back to the 1800s and located in the quiet fishing village of Akrotiri, Palm Tree Workshops offer serenity and tranquility in a minimalist environment. Here, you are free to focus on your work and share creative ideas. And since we keep our workshop size to a maximum of 10 participants, you can count on a personalized experience.

The artists who lead our workshops are carefully selected by Marilena Stafylidou, a professional photographer, experienced tutor, and organizer of educational workshops. Marilena, who divides her time between Santorini and Athens, where she was born and raised, seeks out accomplished artists who are passionate about sharing knowledge and inspiring others. Under her curation, the Palm Tree Workshops have become known for catalyzing new creative projects while building community, all in a warm, welcoming setting.

The Palm Tree Workshops is proud to be part of the Greek nonprofit organization ART·IN·ART, which was founded in 2019 as an open platform for the production and promotion of multi-faceted activities in art and science both in Greece and around the world.

A Historical Location

Originally built in 1800’s, this historical property located right in the center of the traditional village of Akrotiri, overlooking the Aegean Sea and the Venetian Castle of Akrotiri. Τhe founder Dacoronia family, who exported the famous vinsanto wine in Malta, this historical property consists of three residences: the Captain House, the Palm Tree Cavehouse, and a studio, as well as two private chapels (St. Paraskevi and St. Dimitrios) and a small vineyard.

Workshops Space

The Captain House is the heart of The Palm Tree Workshops — our main residence and the place where our workshops unfold.

Recently renovated with respect for its traditional Cycladic character, the house combines contemporary comforts with the authenticity, serenity and privacy of its historic surroundings, creating an inspiring environment for creative exchange and artistic exploration.

Our aim is to bring artists and creative minds together in an intimate and welcoming space where they can exchange ideas, experiences and perspectives, learn from one another, develop their work and create meaningful connections that continue beyond the workshop.

Location

The Palm Tree Residency is located in the heart of Akrotiri (link), on the southern side of Santorini (link), overlooking the Aegean Sea and the historic Akrotiri Venetian Castle (link)—just a minute’s walk away, offering panoramic views across the island.
